Lanzarote
….. la isla negra y mística
Lanzarote es la isla negra, la más mística de todas. Playas oscuras, volcanes y casas que parecen de otro mundo. Solo en el sur, en Playa Blanca y en Papagayo, la arena se vuelve blanca. En el Parque Nacional de Timanfaya hay veinticinco volcanes y un sinfín de conos y fisuras: parece la entrada al infierno.
Y a propósito de eso: cuando yo era niño echaban en la televisión una serie, «Timm Thaler», la del chico que vendió su risa al diablo. La entrada al infierno de aquella serie era esta casa de César Manrique que se ve en las fotos.
También me fascina la manera de criar la vid aquí, cada cepa en su hoyo de ceniza y protegida por un muro de piedra, para hacer el vino de Lanzarote. Toda una aventura. En mi lista de islas canarias ocupa el tercer puesto.

Lanzarote ist die schwarze Insel, die mystischste von allen. Dunkle Strände, Vulkane und Häuser, die aus einer anderen Welt zu stammen scheinen. Nur im Süden, an der Playa Blanca und am Papagayo, wird der Sand weiß. Im Nationalpark Timanfaya gibt es fünfundzwanzig Vulkane und unzählige Krater und Spalten: Es sieht aus wie der Eingang zur Hölle.
Und apropos: Als ich ein Kind war, lief im Fernsehen die Serie «Timm Thaler», der Junge, der sein Lachen an den Teufel verkaufte. Der Eingang zur Hölle war in dieser Serie genau dieses Haus von César Manrique, das auf den Fotos zu sehen ist.
Faszinierend finde ich auch, wie hier die Reben gezogen werden: jeder Stock in einer Mulde aus Lavaasche, geschützt von einer Steinmauer, für den Wein von Lanzarote. Ein echtes Abenteuer. In meiner Rangliste der Kanaren steht sie auf Platz drei.

Lanzarote is the black island, the most mystical of them all. Dark beaches, volcanoes and houses that look like they belong to another world. Only in the south, at Playa Blanca and Papagayo, does the sand turn white. In the Timanfaya National Park there are twenty-five volcanoes and countless cones and fissures: it looks like the entrance to hell.
And speaking of that: when I was a child there was a television series, «Timm Thaler», about the boy who sold his laugh to the devil. The entrance to hell in that series was this very house of César Manrique that you can see in the photos.
I am also fascinated by the way the vines are grown here, each one in its own hollow of volcanic ash and sheltered by a stone wall, to make the wine of Lanzarote. Quite an adventure. On my list of Canary Islands it comes third.
